Mindfulness in the wilderness

Mindfulness in the wilderness

When we launched our canoes on to the French River going toward Georgian Bay this past summer, my heart felt a sigh of happiness. Seven days in the wilderness.

At first, I feel hurried still. And then I know that I’ve arrived on the river when I really begin to see my surroundings. Like the incredible tenacity of the pine tree gripping on to the ancient rock of the Precambrian shield with no soil. Seeing the very few and very tiny astonishingly purple irises blooming.

The third day out, I stumbled across a thicket of blueberries. I just sat down, like a little kid, picked some and ate them right there. As the taste of the rich berries burst intensely in my mouth, I felt a wave of pure delight wash over me.

I become increasingly mindful when I’m paddling for days on end. My thoughts and emotions arise in the moment and pass, like the bright white clouds above.

As I’m preparing for my Mindfulness Programs this fall, I draw on that sense of deep peace to nourish myself. I continue my practices, whether I’m on the river or at home. I integrate and weave in the peace of slowing down.

Join my upcoming 8 week Mindfulness programs this fall, starting the week of Sept 24. As you consciously cultivate mindfulness as an approach to life, you find increasing stability and ease and less stress and worry.

Mindfulness is a way of living, that you can learn.

One participant in a recent 8 week mindfulness course said, “I learned that Mindfulness can be integrated into day to day life like when I wash the dishes.” Join us this fall.
